We offer counselling from the standpoint of the American Psychologist Carl Rogers,
who pioneered the person-centred approach in the 1940's and undertook extensive research
in this area. In this way of working our practitioner provides a relationship that is
based on honesty and acceptance; support from someone who is not involved in your life
but is able to understand your life as though they were in your shoes.
Some of the subject areas our counsellor has worked with
in the past include stress, abuse, relationships, identity,
sexuality, culture, age, racism and chronic illness.
Our practitioner has experience of working with young people
as well as with adults; and people from minority groups.
Currently, this service is only available on a one-to-one basis,
although we are willing to work with organisations as well as
independent individuals.
We offer this service face-to-face or via email.
Our counsellors are members of the BACP and abide by their ethical framework (see links page).
Some comments from clients
"Being able to talk to someone who was outside of my problems / life in that I felt
able to say things I would have difficulty expressing to friends / family (was
particularly helpful / useful). I would not have to worry about the repercussions of
what I was saying."
"Indu has been able to help the recipients in becoming emotionally more stable and feel more secure in the school environment."
"The counsellor was helpful in being able to sort out a number of difficult issues, to clarify my thinking."
"As a result of [Sunai's] initiative...counselling is now accepted as an integral part of the pastoral welfare work of the school."
"...The experience of counselling in general is useful to anyone trying to identify or clarify issues. This counsellor is very helpful in enabling one to work through one's problems."
